Patna: A senior official of Bihar Excise department was on Friday arrested and cash worth Rs 48 lakh, besides documents relating to investments in real estate and share market worth over Rs two crore, were recovered from his two houses.
SP (Vigilance) Manju Jha said acting on a complaint from a liquor trader that state Excise Superintendent (Muzaffarpur) Sanjay Kumar had demanded bribe for some
official work, vigilance sleuths raided his residence in the town and caught him 'red-handed' while accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000.
The vigilance sleuths conducted simultaneous search operation at Kumar's house in Muzaffarpur, a building owned by the official in Razabazar locality in the state capital, besides a couple of flats here and seized cash worth around Rs 48 lakh.
"We also seized several documents during the raids relating to investments in share market, real estate and mutual funds and bonds, besides fixed deposit certificates from his establishments", Jha said.
A disproportionate assets case would also be registered against the Excise Superintendent after assessment, she said. Kumar would be produced before the designated Vigilance judge in Muzaffarpur on Saturday. |
